*Scam Alert* Fake Tech Support

Fake tech support is prevalent and continues to evolve into sophisticated programming that can look and sometimes sounds like a legitimate warning.

Forms of fake support can happen when scammers call you directly claiming to be from a legitimate company or can display a fake error message that locks your screen.  If your see this screen, or a similar one, do not call the number!  Chances are it is a scam!

If you are contacted by a scammer, if you contact the scammers or allow them to have remote access to your computer they may attempt to offer a solution in exchange for signing up for a high priced subscription and/or a large payment

Microsoft or other reputable company will not freeze your computer or send unsolicited emails and call you.  All communication must start with you!

Ways you can protect against these scams are:

  • Only download software from your vendor’s official websites or the Microsoft or Apple Store
  • Make sure your antivirus and/or anti-malware software is enabled to detect known malware
